Cycle Music and Art Festival

Tags is a work based on ear markings in the areas of Suður-Thingeyjarsýsla and Kelduhverfi. In the work notations of the tags are translated into language and music systems, and in the translation process new understandings surface and create a new interpretation of the original system. Ear tags are part of historical heritage and have a local meaning, are part of specific farms through generations, but can also be looked at abstractly and symbolic for a certain knowledge and have distinctive grammar and aesthetic qualities. The ear tag has a strong physical appeal – the ear of the sheep decides on the shape of the mark – and some typical features of a symbol in language. In the work the elements of the marks are used to create a new vision.
